Hi everyone!
It's first I'm here!

Would you please check some sentences from my test. I'm not sure whether I have done properly.

1) Janet XXXX (teach) for years when she lost her job.

I thought Janet has been a teacher for period of time. It happened after she lost her first job. So, I think the correct answer is:

Janet has been teaching for years when she lost her job.

2) By the end of term our class XXXX (read) Lord of Flies for over three months - I am so bored with it.

Here I have the same grammar construction as it was the first one. The answer is:

By the end of term our class has been reading Lord of Flies for over three months - I am so bored with it.

3) The manager was angry that he XXXX (not tell) about the strike sooner.

Here I have passive construction plus pas perfect because the manager was angry and the anger is a result of the unawareness. The answer is:

The manager was angry that had not been told about the strike sooner

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Before we continue, have you taken this test already and been given your mark/score?

No, I have not been given a score. Moreover, I'm going to get the score. I study English myself.

I had the test in 14 questions, I carried out 11 of them, but the three caused the doubts. This is the reason why I've sent the message

No. Janet had been teaching for years.

2) By the end of term our class XXXX (read) Lord of Flies for over three months - I am so bored with it.

You're right that the forms are the same. Like sentence 1, this sentence requires the past perfect. Write had been reading.

3) The manager was angry that he XXXX (not tell) about the strike sooner.

Here I have passive construction plus pas perfect because the manager was angry and the anger is a result of the unawareness. The answer is:

The manager was angry that he had not been told about the strike sooner
This one is correct if you include the subject pronoun I added.

Hello Dmitry, and welcome to the forum. :)
As a little exercise for you, use the information from the responses above to write out the correct forms of the sentences you asked about.

As for #2, would it be possible to say "By the end of (the) term our class will have read/will have been reading Lord of Flies for over three months"?

Thank you.

With "for three months", you can use "will have been reading" but not "will have read".

teechar!

What information (information from the responses) you are talking about? Do you mean a specific syntax for posting a question?

No, I didn't mean that. I meant the following:

Janet had been teaching for years when she lost her job.

By the end of term, our class will have been reading Lord of the Flies for over three months - I am so bored with it.

The manager was angry that he had not been told about the strike sooner.
