What's a pieriansipist?
Quoting Alexander Pope:
"A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring;
For shallow draughts intoxicate the brain;
And drinking largely sobers us again."
Pieria was a region of ancient Macedonia, and in Greek Mythology it was believed that if one drank the water of a spring in that region, then he will become knowledgeable and wise.
But, the actual meaning is, if you gain a little knowledge, then you feel that you are knowing a lot, but if you go for deep study, then you come to know that how little your knowledge is and behave properly to others.
This indicates the meaning of "intoxicate" and "sober".
Also quoting 'Petronius' in 'Satyricon':
"This is the right armour of genius-
Drink deep or taste not the Pierian Spring,
Only then pour your heart."
Thus, those who are trying to gain the maximum possible knowledge, may be termed as Pieriansipist {Pierian(water of Pierian spring or knowledge) + sipist (one who sips)}
