Where should I put "simply" in the following sentence?
You should simply have answered my question.
You should've simply answered my question.

I prefer the first one. However, within context the meaning would probably be clear with either one.

I prefer the second but, as Tarheel said, either one works within the relevant context. Bear in mind, of course, that "You should have answered my question simply" has a different meaning.
