[Grammar] excelling nature

Is the following sentence acceptable?

I was fascinated by its magnificent appearance, whose wonderful workmanship excelling nature.

No. "Excelling" is not the proper form. "Excels" works.

It's ungrammatical.

Change 'excelling' to 'excels' or 'excelled' and it would be better, though still odd.

What is 'it'?

My guess is this thread is linked to the one mentioning the world's largest train station. So "it" is (if I'm right), the train station.
