[Grammar] strike of luck or stroke of luck

Hi all,

This is really wrecking my head. I have been trying to figure out the difference between using strike and stroke. For instance; at the strike of midnight vs at the stroke of midnight, a strike of luck vs a stroke of luck and so on.

If anyone could explain the difference between the use of the two, that would be awesome. I feel like there is a slight difference, but I couldn't tell you why.

The correct idioms are "at the stroke of midnight" and "a stroke of luck". You may sometimes hear "strike" from people who never completely learned these idioms, including native English speakers.
