Hello,
could you explain to me what the rules are for subordinate clauses dependent on conditional clauses? I seem to be unable to find any on the web, despite my searching.
#1 I didn’t know your sister is so nice. I would have visited you earlier.
or
If I had known your sister ____ so nice, I would have visited you
earlier.
#2 I didn’t know you play tennis so well. I wouldn’t have played with
you.
or
If I had known you ______ tennis so well, I wouldn’t have played
with you.
#3 I didn’t know you will tell her. I wouldn’t have invited her.
or
If I had known you _______ tell her, I wouldn’t have invited her.
#4 I didn’t know you shouldn’t drink alcohol. I wouldn’t have treated you.
or
If I had known you shouldn’t _____________ alcohol, I wouldn’t have treated you.
Could you please suggest correct answers to complete the sentences and possibly provide some rules or a link where I could do some studying on this issue?
Thank you for your time.
