What is the difference between lean over and lean forward?

You can lean over sideways or lean over backwards, not just lean over forwards.

If you ask me the difference between lean forward and lean over forwards -- now THAT I can't answer. Maybe when you "lean over" you bend more than when you simply "lean."

See some expressions.

To lean forward we usually shorten the front of the torso.
You lean forward to see only your own reflection.
I leaned forward onto steering wheel.

You can lean over the desk or headlines.
We lean over the balcony.
A lot of people sit quite close to each other and lean over.
