Does a soldier wear a canteen or flask on the hip?

You will be better asking that question through a military source. We do not have knowledge of military dress and equipment. This site is about English language.

Me and and my friend we both study English. We had a discussion whether it's a flask or canteen. Hope no hard feelings taken.:)

I've got a feeling it's the English language. Is it English language?

If you mean vocabulary, then yes both terms could be used but I cannot comment on what the military usage is.

I'd suggest "canteen." A flask is often used to refer to a container in which you store liquor, sometimes in some degree of secrecy.

I've been googling and the only option seems to be a canteen. Are there second thoughts?

If I suggested canteen and it's all you're finding, why would I have second thoughts?
