Which is correct?

an partical use ?

"an XML styleshit " is written on one english sentence . Is there any rule to use an before X.

We use 'an' before a vowel sound, so 'x', which is pronounced 'ex' starts with a vowel sound. ;-)

Dear All,

 I voted for a wrong answer (Should i use for?).

I look forward to hearing from you.
Is forward a adverb? Or it's a adjective?

Why do we use to add a Ving?

Thanks for your reply.
Have a nice day :D

If there are two prepositions\adverbs\particles after a phrasal verb, and the second is 'to', then we use -ing. There is debate as to the nature of the words modifying verbs. They are often called prepositions, but often don't connect words. The OED call them adverbs because they modify the verbs. The category of 'particle' is also used, but I don't think it is much use as a category as it is fairly meaningless. Forward is not an adjective here, though. ;-)

Dear tdol,

Thanks!!

So may I say:
He seems happily to meeting you.
David looks angryly to hearing from you.

And another question is:
Which words should I use in this sentence,
I voted "for" a wrong answer? or I voted "to" a wrong answer?

Have a nice day :)

Say: "He looks forward to meeting you."
Say: "I voted for a wrong answer" or "I chose the wrong answer."

:)

Dear RonBee,

Thanks!

I'll remember how to use "look forward to" and "vote".

Thanks :)

Soheila,

I didn't receive the letter. If you sent it by private message, then I am afraid that it might not have reached me. I get a lot of messages and when my inbox is full I don't receive any more.

It's better to use the forum for messages, where more people can see them and you'll start getting answers straightaway. I suggest going to the Ask a Teacher forum and putting any questions you have there and look at the answers. It's difficult to answer general questions about learning, so it's better to ask about problems you might have, of any kind.

All the best

Richard
