Hi dear teachers!

Are the following sentences both correct?

Today, The people are living longer than did their parents.
Today, The people are living longer than their parents did.

Thanks.

Today, [STRIKE]The[/STRIKE] people are living longer than did their parents.
Today, [STRIKE]The [/STRIKE]people are living longer than their parents did.
The first is rather formal, the second far more natural.
