The multiple choice test I came across yesterday only accepted "at the height of the Cold War".

Are they both acceptable?

A Google search turned up even encyclopedia results using the 2nd one + quite a few native English sites have it in various articles.

No, you can't use zenith, when something is at its zenith it is at its best or most successful. We can't really describe the cold war as being at its best.

Thank you Bhai! That's the same way we use it in Greek, it has a positive meaning only.

Seeing it used in an encyclopedia makes me sad...
