Hello,

I got this sentence from a book and I am not sure if the hightlighted words are grammatically correct. Please help.

Jaris decided that any friend of Sam Purdy's deserved an additional bolus of hard-ass attitude.

Many thanks.

friend of Sam Purdy has deserved

Not a teacher.

The structure that puzzled you is "determiner + noun + of + possessive".

a friend of mine
that friend of Jack's
any friend of Sam Purdy's

Not a teacher.

This sounds right, but I still need to see more examples myself. Thanks.

Duiter, please state that you are not a teacher, and wait longer than four minutes to jump in with a wrong answer before giving teachers and/or native speakers a chance to give the correct one.
