If the dinner belonged to the dog, it was its dinner. If the dinner belonged to me, it was my dinner.

Once the dog had started eating, wouldn't it automatically becomes the dog's dinner? ;-)

The word "its" is a possessive adjective.
The word "it's" is a conctraction of "it is" or "it has".

Hi

it's is used instead of it is, while
its is used when describing that it has.

"It's your toy you can take it"
"Its my responsibility to protect you", or "Its in my heart and mind, the word you just said to me"
Hope they are correct

No:

It's your toy. (correct= it is)
It's got five entrances (correct = it has)
Look at the dog playing with its toy. (correct =the toy belongs to the dog)
