Dear Teacher:
I am the new member of Using English. I wonder what the difference uses between Hope and Wish in sentence?
Also which sentence is correct in the two sentence below?
A. We really had a good time together. I hope you enjoyed it too.
B. We really had a good time together. I hope you enjoy it too.

Dear Fellow Member Kimlang:

I am 99.99% sure that sentence B is wrong. If you and a friend had a good time, then you would tell him/her: "I hope [that] you enjoyed it, too."

*****

The present tense would be correct in something like this:

I (not you) went to a lecture last week. I really had a good time. I hear that you are going to that lecture

this week. I hope that you enjoy it, too. (Many times in English, we use the present when speaking about the future. For

example: In November, Americans will vote for president. I hope that Mr. ____ wins.)

Your fellow member,

The Parser has answered your second question. Regarding your first question, could you post some examples of how you would use these two words?

Welcome to the forums, kimlang:-D. Thank you for giving your thread an excellent title, which has found this similar thread below: I hope VS. I wish.

Thank you the Parser for providing me with a clear explanation. :)

Dear Riquecohen:
For example of those two words like:
My friend was not at the party with me yesterday.
A. I wish she....... at the party with me.
B. I hope she......at the party with me.
Which tense can I use to put ?

Thank you for the source Chicken Sandwich... ;-)

Thank for your warming welcome as well Rover. :) I am very glad to be a member of this site.

For A use "had been" in the space. B is not possible.

Dear bhaisahab:
So that mean I cannot use "hope" to express something in the past?

You cannot hope in the present for something you already know did not happen in the past.

This is possible: John was taking his driving test yesterday. I hope he passed.

Here your present hope is that you will hear in some way that he passed.
