Drink or Drinks?

Usually we will say thanks for the drink or thanks for the drinks? (assuming someone has bought you a cup of tea)

We don't refer to 'drinks' if it's one cup of tea.

When you get your tea, you say simply "Thank you".
When you leave, if you've been given several drinks (of whatever kind), you can say, "Thanks for the drinks". If you've had several cups of tea, you say simply "Thanks for the tea".

It would sound strange to say "Thank you for the drinks" if you only had one.
