Hi,

In my presentation, I want to show a video clip, but the clip is not in English. The class is for ESL, and the clip uses the mother tongue of the class. So, all the class understand the language of the clip.

Should I translate the clip or show it with its original language.

I'm sorry if this is not the right forum for this question.

Thanks.

It may be easier to respond if you tell us why you are showing this clip in an English class?

I'm doing a presentation. The clip is a visual aid. The topic of the presentation is related to the culture of the class. That's why it is in their mother tongue.

If the rest of your presentation is in English, then I suggest you introduce the clip in English.

Yes, the presentation is in English. Could you please explain why a translation is needed.

If all the class understand the language of the clip, as it is their native language, why should we use translation. Nobody in the class will read from it and ignore their native language. So it is useless.

I appreciate your explanation.

I did not say I thought a translaion was needed. I suggested that your introduction be in English, the language you are speaking throughout the presentation.

Thanks a lot.
