Hello

When you ride a bus or any other means of transportation fulled with people, what is a casual question you ask when you want to get to the exit? Or do you just say, 'Excuse me' - I've heard that a lot.

- Are you getting off?
- May I pass?

Or anything else? I heard a woman saying, 'Out. I am out. That way' :)
I would especially prefer to hear AmE options.

P.S. I have lived in Chicago for exactly one month. I've come to love this place!

I would be grateful if you would correct any mistakes I might have made in this message.

Thank you!

Any ideas, please?

Excuse me. This is my stop.

Excuse me. This is my stop.

If a person is blocking my way to get off a bus, is it natural or polite to say, "Excuse me. Are you getting off too?" ?.

Thanks.

No. If they hear "This is my stop" then they know they need to get out of your way.

The bigger problem is that with everyone plugged into their iPods, they may not hear you.

Here is a similar situation where you want go a particular direction but being hampered by people in front of you.
What would you say?

Please, let me pass.
Let me move past.

Thank you!

The reason why you've heard 'Excuse me' a lot is that it's the best and only thing you need to say.
