I saw this sentence,

The coming winter is more than just a distant reality to you, and you love nothing more than being prepared.

I'm wondering what "more than just a distant reality to you' means in this sentence, and what "The coming winter is more than just a distant reality to you" means? Thank you.

It means that that the coming winter is not merely an abstract concept or a possibility. You understand that it will come and it will be a considerable threat. Therefore, as the passage goes on to say, you love nothing more than to be prepared.

Also, IMO, it implies that the winter is relatively near.
