Dear Sir/Madam,
Could you please explain me the sentence below, which i read in "RICH DAD POOR DAD" by Robert T. Kiyosaki, page no: 103:

"when downsizing became the "in" thing to do, millions of workers found out their largest so-called asset, their home, was eating them alive".

It means that many companies were "downsizing" (reducing their work force) and the employees that were let go had trouble paying their rents/mortgages.
