Dear teachers and members:
I would like to confirm the following regarding the idiomatic expression as good as it gets.
I - Do the below definitions matches with the above mentioned expression, or which is the more appropiate one? If only one or more than one match, please, let it know; if none of them match, please, let it know which is the one for this idiom.
a) This is the better that could be prepared by now.
b) Better than this, it is not possible till now.
c) This is the better because there is no other one available until now.
d) Other better than this cannot be gotten by the time being.
II - EXAMPLES:
a) If someone makes a pasta and when someone else tastes it finds that it is delicious and very good; it finds it perfectly. It might say:
This pasta is as good as it gets. (could not be prepared better).
b) If someone has his/her car fixed and he/she is amazed on how well-fixed it is. He/she might say:
That repair is as good as it gets (better than this, might not be possible).
c) If I'm watching a bad movie with a friend of mine and I aks him ''does this movie get any better?'' He might say:
No, this is as good as it gets (this is the better, there is no other one available).
d) If you send me to get something for you, and you are not satisfied with the one I brought to you, I might say:
This is as good as it gets over here (other better than this cannot be gotten over here).
III - Finally, I think that this idom also means as good as it is.
Regards.
