I'd just refer to them as 'weeds' in general. I can't make them out in any kind of detail to see if I can actually recognize what specific weeds they may be. I'm sure they have some local or regional name for the individual plants (on top of their scientific classification).
It looks like there might some threadbare patches of grass, but it's hard to see whether it's actually grass or some smaller type of weed. Certain grasses are considered weeds anyway.
There's nothing wrong with describing it as barren (adjective). It's a bit too small of an area to be referred to as a barren (noun). The noun form is usually pluralized anyway.
