Let's say an apple is on a drying rack. Someone grabs it. Is it correct to say they "picked it up from the rack"?

Does this work?

He picked up an apple from a drying rack and sliced it.

Is there a better way to express it?

You could use a different verb such as 'grabbed', but there's nothing wrong with 'picked up'
