Cindy,

I wish to share some cultural information with you.

(1) Many years ago, children attended elementary

school (grades 1 - 8). High school was grades 9 - 12.

(2) Then some sensitive and kind people in authority

decided that seventh and eighth graders were too

mature to be mixed in with first to sixth graders, and

that ninth graders were too immature to share the

same environment with tenth to twelfth graders.

Thus was created the junior high school (grades 7 - 9).

Then about 20 years ago, some sensitive and kind

people decided that sixth graders were too mature to be

mixed in with first to fifth graders, and that ninth graders

were, yes, mature enough for high school.

Thus was created the middle school of today (grades 6 - 8).

Don't be surprised if the people in authority come up with yet

another change.

My elementary school was K-6, my junior high was 7&8, and my high school was 9-12.

My children's elementary school was K-6, their middle school is 6-8, and their high school is 9-12.

I refer to their middle school sometimes as "junior high" and no one bats an eye.

Shifting populations will affect things. In my current district, before they built a second high school, they used a smaller building as the "9th grade academy" because there were too many to fit in the high school.
