That's a lot of transcribing, and it wouldn't teach you much.

So why don't you try transcribing the first few lines and show us what you come up with?

Now when it comes to spreading
there are many things to name
there's butter, and there's fire
and then of course there's fame
the thing that spreads the quickest
It's the fast you'll agree
is the spoken word of rumour
just listen and you'll see.

Now the rumour I would speak of here...and I can't understand the rest

. . . was started by a man
from Invernesse who whispered (?)
"Did you hear what I heard, Willy?"
"Man, that's awful, yes, that's right!"

You got it exactly right. I can't get that phrase after "whispered," either. Someone else here probably can.

What are some other parts you're struggling with?

I'll probably have the same problem. Let's see if someone else can help with some of it.

As the story progresses, it shifts into the voices of people speaking broader and broader Scots. You might need a Scottish person to get every word of it.

The conclusion is clear enough:

By the time it reached the isles
They'd forgotten what it was!

... who whispered it from in behind his hand
Did you hear what I heard, Wally?
Man, that's awful. Yes, that's right.
You'd never have believed it
Man, it gave me such a fright
Now poor Willy was quite upset
When he heard that this had been
So he straightway phoned his brother George
Who lived in Aberdeen.
Oh deary me, said George ...

After that, I get about two-thirds of it but I don't have time to type it out!
