Please, I [strike]want[/strike] would like to know if catenative verbs are finite or nonfinite and if they are the first verbal element in a sentence. e.g I helped to clean the room.

Welcome to the forum.

When you post, please remember these rules of written English:

- Start every sentence with a capital letter.
- Always capitalise the word "I".

Like most verbs, catenative verbs have finite and non-finite forms. They are not necessarily the first verbal element in a verb phrase.

If I had time, I could help him (to) clean the house.
