"Document number" is still "number" when a combination of letters and numbers

Hi,

When a formal document is prepared, some number is given to the document and sometimes it is a combination with alphabets.
(For example, ISO 9001)

I guess usually people call it "a document number", and I am wondering if it is still called "document number" when it is a combination with alphabets.
Is there any other saying?
Is "document identification" or "document description" usable/better to mean it?

Thanks.

It's fine to call it a document/reference number, but don't call letters alphabets.
