Is it considered wrong to put a comma before “but”?

What about the case when you use “while”? Would you put a comma before that?

Europeans celebrate their birthdays regardless of age (,) while for Asians, birthday celebrations are only for children.

Europeans celebrate their birthdays regardless of age, but for Asians, birthday celebrations are only for children.
Remove the comma after "Asians" and it's perfect.
