Can "fall into one's lap" be used for when a person gets lucky and finds a really good partner?

Is this correct and natural?

This amazing, beautiful girl just fell into his lap. I don't think he deserves her.

I believe so. It means the event was not due to any action on his part.

I didn't seek the promotion, it just fell into my lap due to circumstance. The boss died, and I was the only person who could speak French.

Similar to: it just fell out of the sky. Some people are just blessed. They sail through life without even trying.

It's possible, but it might be ambiguous.

I had noticed that, but if this is a novel, as a reader, I'd find the author's wit somewhat amusing.
