Hi,

Is "He got admission to PhD/MA English/MPhil etc." correct?

Hi,

Is "He got admission to PhD/MA English/MPhil etc." correct?

No.
He was admitted to the PhD program in English at Harvard University.
He was accepted into the PhD program.

(American word choices)

You could even say he "gained" admission, but not "got."

1: Is ''get admission'' wrong? Should I avoid its use in the future?

2: Are the following correct?
He was granted/gained admission into the MPhil program. AmE
He was granted/gained admission onto the the MPhil programme. BrE

I agree with the advice above, not because the option proposed is categorically wrong, but because it's awkward and inelegant.

Can I also use "to" instead of "into"?

In the American versions, you can use "to" as well.

In very casual speech, I've heard things like "She got admitted to McGill Medical school."
