How much is admission? Best.

How much is the admission? Not as good.

What is admission? Good.

What is the admission? Not as good.
They're all okay, but some are more likely than others.

Now you know!

You can't ask "What is admission?" It's not grammatical.

Am I the only one who would prefer a fee rather than admission?

How much is the fee?

The natural phrasing depends to some extent on the nature of the thing you want to enter. If it were a nightclub, I'd say:

How much is it to get in?

At an American nightclub you might ask What's the cover charge?

I mean a museum or a zoo.

@Glizdka asked about "How much is the fee?". Is this form also possible? If yes, which form is more popular:
- How much is admission?
- How much is the fee? / How much is fee?

"Fee" is vague. I would say " How much is the entrance fee/ticket?".

OK, so probably the most common phrase is:
How much is a ticket?

And a less common phrase:
How much is admission?

I would probably say:

How much do I have to pay to get in?

Or:
.
What's the admission fee?

(In St. Louis there is no charge to get into either the zoo or the art museum.)
