Which is correct, the five o'clock deadline or the five deadline?

It's exceedingly tiresome to have to correct these punctuation errors in the text of an English teacher.

It's exceedingly tiresome to have to correct these punctuation errors in the text of an English teacher.
I found that sentence in Longman Advanced American Dictionary.

You'll see careless writers of all varieties omit quotation marks when they don't think they're necessary. But we enforce strict adherence to punctuation rules here and require them. Ignoring them is no more acceptable in American English than in any other kind.
