Could you please tell me which one is correct? I think the first one is correct and the second is wrong because go is a short verb like leave ( an action has already finished).


  1. Jack has gone to Switzerland for a holiday.
  2. Jack has been going to Switzerland for a holiday.

You are right. The second sentences implies Jack making repeated trips, yet "trip" is written as singular.

What do you mean by "short verb"?

For sentence two, I think the British would say on holiday, and Americans would say for a vacation.

It's a pattern. He goes to Switzerland regularly on holiday (or for a vacation).
