In an exercise on listening:

And if you were to ask me the best way of assuring job satisfaction, I’d say it’s to be Number One. I think it’s the only sure-fire way of getting that feeling. I never want to play second fiddle to anyone.

And A task to that job to match opinions:
It is important to be your own boss.

Could you help me understand what is going on here.

Questions:

1. Does to be your own boss mean to be either self-employed or establish your own company?
Can a sportsman be his own boss for example. For example, was Mike Tyson his own boss in his prime?

2. Do you feel that 'to be Number One' = 'to be your own boss'? As far as I can understand, to be Number One means to be the most important and the best in general. For example, is a prominent scientist Number One or not?

1. Yes. It means you don't have a boss.
2. Not exactly, very strictly speaking. I see what you're getting at and what you say is reasonable, I think.

There aren't any other better answers to the question, though, right? So that's the answer you should put. It's close enough.
