Would there be an American equivalent to "the Old Boy's Network" or "backstairs influence" as in "My dad is going to use the Old Boy's Network to make sure I get into college"? Or is it used in both GB and the US?

It's very much in use in the US.
I wouldn't bother to capitalize it, though.

For info, it's not capitalised in BrE. It's just the old boys network.

Though some add the apostrophe- boys'.

Maybe "backstage influence" would be something similar, although maybe more related to political/economic power than to get you admitted in college (except maybe for those of the Ivy League ;-)).
