Greetings.

I was having a discussion with one of my friends about the pronunciation of the final "S" of some words. And the word "society" came to my mind and, i was wondering if the

pronunciation of the final "S" of societies is Z or IZ.

Thank you.

Good question. Try "so-cia-tees" or so-cia-dees". You make the call.:?:

The final S is pronounced /z/. The vowel before it is /i/.

The final syllable is IZ.

The final sound of that syllable is Z.

Some might use a longer vowel than others, but I don't see that many speakers would say /TZ/ at the end.
