Hi,
Steven Caulker then rescued Swansea with a brave goal-line clearance from Theo Walcott after he was played in by Arshavin. The defender took a knock and ripped the net in the process, but his intervention kept his side level.
I have some questions concerning this short paragraph.
1.
Does the "play in" mean "substitue"?
2.
What does the "defender" sentence mean? Especially "took a knock", "rip the net in the process" and "kept his side level".
Thanks a lot
