I hope this is not considered M-rated. I apologize in case it is.

'The moment our lips (were) joined, I knew she was perfect for me.'

Is 'were' necessary here? The dictionaries don't seem very clear as to how 'join' works.

Edit: I forgot to clarify that this describes the beginning of a kiss; I don't mean that their lips touched for only a moment.

Please don't use "were" there. That would make it mean something else entirely.

I would use "touched" there, but "joined" is okay (I think).

You think? That doesn't sound comforting! :-|
Any other opinions?

Well, I wouldn't use "joined" so I'm not enthusiastic about it. However, it's perfectly fine to use "touched" there.

I have one! Perhaps:

The moment our lips met I knew she was right for me.

And maybe:

I felt electricity. It was a feeling that I had never felt before.

Use your own words of course. (But I like them. :-D)

I would use "met".

What's "M-rated"? If you meant that you were concerned about any potential sexual content, we would use "X-rated".

Darn. I had decided to use 'touched', and now you make me think about it all over again.

So, why 'met' and not 'touched'? Please explain.

For me, met suggests an idea of coming together that is not necessarily contained in touched.

Right— met carries a sense of being so much more than mere physical contact.

Well, I suggested "met" in post #4, so I guess I know where everybody else got the idea.
;-)

Lips can meet or touch for me, but they don't join.
