Hi Everyone,
I am listening a BBC audio today, and then I encounter a question!

In the audio, there is a sentence as below.
"I am selling subscriptions to all sorts of periodicals."

Why does it use "to" in above sentence?
Is using "of" instead of "to" better or same?

Looking forward to hearing your answers. Thank you!

Because that is the appropriate preposition.

Neither. It's wrong.
Thank you for your prompt reply!

From what I know, I thought that "sell something to ____" means that sell something to somebody.
"subscriptions of all sorts of periodicals" seems more like a whole combination of noun.
Thank you so much for letting me know that using "of" instead of "to" is wrong.

Could you please give me some examples of using "to" in the sentence similar to the sentence above? Thank you!

Hi, everyone. Unnecessary. Just go ahead with your post.

I am was listening to a some BBC audio today, and then I encounter now I have a question!

In the audio, there is a sentence as below. I heard the following sentence:
"I am selling subscriptions to all sorts of periodicals."

Why does it use is "to" used in the above sentence? Is using "of" instead of "to" better or the same?

I'm looking forward to hearing your answers. Thank you! All unnecessary. Thank us after we help you by adding the "Thank" icon to any useful post.
Please note my corrections and comments above.

As 5jj said, "to" is used because it's the appropriate preposition for the sentence. When we talk about subscriptions, that's the preposition we use.
I have a subscription to Netflix.
He has a subscription to various different magazines.
I wish I had a subscription to Amazon Prime.

Similarly, when we exchange something for money, we sell it to other people/businesses/publications etc.
A shop sells products to its customers.
Freelance journalists sell stories to newspapers.
Greengrocers sell fruit and vegetables to the general public.

It's possible to use "for" with "sell" when talking about selling something on someone else's behalf.
My mum wants to sell her silver collection. She doesn't use the internet so I'm selling it for her on eBay.
I gather you're doing a car boot sale this weekend. Would you mind trying to sell my CD player for me?

Thank you so much! The examples are very clear and easy understanding! They exemplified how to use "to" and "for" in sentences.
