    I am wondering if/whether he will come or not.

    ---------------

    It is said ' if ' is a misuse here. Only 'whether' is correct, for it is set for 'whether.... or not'. Is my understanding right? Thank you.

    Personally, I'd prefer 'I am wondering whether he will come' tout sec, but opinions, I know, differ.
