"Sixteen-year-old" is a noun; In "sixteen-year-old student," it is an adjective modifying "student." Regarding "who" and "whom," there is no space to explain them. Please type in "who/whom" in the "search" box of this site and you'll get plenty of help. A little suggestion: If you are ever in doubt, then just use "who." When you use "who" incorrectly, it is never as "bad" as "whom" when it is used incorrectly. Good luck on your career.

That makes him the subject of the relative clause, so you must use 'who'.
