Did I catch the words correctly?
Dear all,
The video clip below is from a concert by Paul McCartney.
.
YouTube - Paul McCartney - I'll Follow The Sun
At the biginning, he introduces the song I'll Follow the Sun as follows..
"I well remember writing this next song, in the front parlor of a little council house in Liverpool, lookin' through the lace curtains onto the road, 20 Forthlin Road...
I'm not sure if I caught the words correcly. Could anyone kindly let me know if there's any mistake, especially in the italicized parts?
OP
P.S. 20 Forthlin Road is the place where Paul used to live when he was a teenager.
Re: Did I catch the words correctly?
No mistakes
Council house - a house owned by the local authority and let at a low rent
little - not very big [Council houses have two living rooms, kitchen, bathroom and two and a half bedrooms - quite small]
"onto" colloquial usage.

Paul's use of 'front parlour' seems odd to my (southerner's) ears. Down here, the front parlour of a small house would -wastefully - be reserved for Sunday dinner and visitors (and possibly also piano lessons). Not for teenage boys goofing about with their mates.
Perhaps in Liverpool front parlours have a different status. Or perhaps there was a piano there, and Paul was allowed access because of that.
