Good afternoon, I have a question: Which of the following sentences is correct?
1. Carl Hancock, a retired doctor, was fined £500 after being convicted of drunken driving
2. Carl Hancock, a retired doctor, has been fined £500 after being convicted of drunken driving

They are both correct but don't mean the same.
