Hello,

I am currently teaching English in Ecuador and an in need of an explaination of "supposed to be"? I have searched the website for answers to no avail as well as my grammar book. Do you know the meaning and function of " supposed to be"?

It's often used like should:
I'm supposed to be there at 2 = I should be there at 2 (though probably won't)
I was supposed to be there at 2 = I should have been there at 2 (and wasn't)

Thank for the information regarding " supposed to be". However, I actually posted the incorrect question, I meant to post: Soon to be + Past Participle. I had done an activity with my SS that practices this grammer point, however, I am a bit unclear of the use and function, if anyone could help me that would be great. The following are some example:

1. You getting married in a couple of weeks
TL - You're soon to be married.

2. The book is going to be published very soon.
TL - The soon to be published book by John smith...

3. We're playing the semi-finals againist Germany next Monday
TL ???

4. The Spanish team are acquriing a new goal-keeper, Antoninim, next season.
TL ???

The last two sentence are directly from the pre-made lesson and I am unclear as how to use "soon to be + past particicple". Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

I think they're looking for soon to be playing/acquiring, though they're not very natural sentences to me.
