"Educate yourself in the ways of the Japanese language"
Does it sound fine as some kind of a slogan?

It sounds strange. What are the ways of the Japanese language, or for that matter, the English language?
Perhaps
Educate yourself in the ways of the Japanese (more like Japanese culture)
would sound more plausible.

It could be a mistranslation..... the Chinese character commonly used for language (文) also translates more broadly as the etymology "civil" with the meaning civilisation and culture... Added link: http://zhongwen.com/d/164/x229.htm
