assess or estimate
Hello,
I am new here. I am not sure if I should to write assess or estimate in the following sentence:
In order to assess or estimate the effect of the direct interaction on the transport of suspended particles ......
Thank you

The meaning is very similar, if not the same. I prefer 'estimate'.

Assess is more precise than estimate. If you actually assess the effect, then you look at the results and perhaps make a report based on the actual results. If you estimate, then you maybe look at only some of the results and make an educated guess.
