`Remaining'
Hello,
An article contained the sentence, "The school, which had been remaining closed for 10 years, started functioning"
Now, there is a dispute over the usage "had been remaining", with a group suggesting that it should have been "was remaining".
Please advise whether "had been remaining" in this context is correct or not.
Regards
MN
