Does a request\demand, requires a question mark?

I frequently need to ask collegues to carry out activities at work such as

Can you read the document please.
Could you please reset my password.
Could you please let me know if that's fine by you.
Can you send me a confirmation.

etc... etc...


I would like to confirm if these requests require a question mark at the end (?)

Although I am not actuall asking a question, It is more of a demand than question... Please advise..

I would say yes. However, I personally wouldn't use "Can/could you...." with any of these sentences. I would simply put:

Please reset my password.
Please confirm as soon as possible.
Please read the document.

If you say "Can you read the document?" you are asking if the person is physically able to read it, you're not necessarily asking them to do so!

(1) The experts do not agree.

(2) One expert says: We do not use the question mark when we are

merely making a request or when we expect no answer.

Would you please send us a copy of that invoice.

May we have the pleasure of hearing from you soon.

(3) Another expert (A British gentleman) says:

It is easy to forget the question mark after a request . Then he adds: it

should NOT be forgotten!!!

(4) I would guess (only my guess) that most Americans would NOT use

the question mark in such situations:

Will you please send your check at once.

May I ask you to come early on Friday morning.
