Hi, everyone! What do you think are the subjects of the verb take in the following examples?:

Sorry for taking so long (to get back to you).
Took you long enough.
You took long enough.
You certainly took your your time, didn't you?

Take your time, took so long etc etc

Related to spending time. Took so long means that a person spent a long time somewhere, Take your time means that a person has enough time to use (some one is saying to the other). The same meaning is used in other sentences.

Guess I should have added more background to this. In my mind, take can be used in two ways regarding time: either something [or it] takes (you) some time (to do something) (NEED) or you take some time (to do/doing something). (USE) For example,

It took me years to get over her. (NEED)
I took a moment to thank her for having been out of my life. (USE)
You certainly took your time getting here. (USE)

Given that take can be used either as NEED or USE, I wanted to know what's going on in natives' mind when they say the following:

Sorry for taking so long.
Is it short for I'm sorry that I'm taking so long
or I'm sorry that it is taking so long?
(Note that there can be different interpretations regarding tense and aspect of the sentence but I'm focusing on subjects of the verb take here)

You took long enough.
Is take used as USE or is the sentence a variation of (It) Took you long enough (thus used as NEED)?
