I'm wondering what the preposition off mean in a pantry off the kitchen
1) a pantry is part of the kitchen and sectioned off in the corner
2) a pantry is a room right next to the kitchen

If it's "off the kitchen" then it is a separate room, next to the kitchen, but the entrance to the pantry is via a door from the kitchen. The pantry is unlikely to have any other doors, so to enter the pantry you have to go into the kitchen first and then through the connecting door.

We use "off" to mean "leading from". There are four bedrooms off the hallway. This means there is a hallway with 4 bedroom doors leading from it.
