    He equipped himself with a street plan?

    This is a sentence from my dictionary and I don't understand the meaning.

    Please help.

    it sounds like some sort of document outlining where the streets are to be built. A city would have plans for street construction - maybe that is what it is. I don't know why someone would "equip" themselves with such a plan. What dictionary are you using?

    In the US there is a plat map which shows actual or proposed streets and building lots. This sort of map is created by the city and is used by builders and planning departments among others. I believe that the statement has something to do with maps. Another meaning could be that he has a plan for living on the streets, though I don't see how he could equip himself with such a plan - he would create this sort of plan. Another option could be that this has some meaning in British English that I am unaware of.
